We are dedicated to the success of our clients. We are also committed to the overall well-being of our employees and strive to provide a challenging, rewarding and diverse environment. One way in which we work to create an atmosphere that emphasizes professional development, individualism and communication, is through our Women's Initiative.
Led by partners Michelle A. Allan and Theresa M. Cignetti, the goals of the Women's Initiative are to promote the retention of female attorneys, foster a positive work-life balance, encourage the exchange of ideas and address the personal and professional challenges unique to women in the legal profession.
As part of Burns White’s efforts to retain and enhance the careers of its female attorneys, the members of the Women's Initiative meet regularly to discuss, review and develop internal policies that promote a work-life balance. Included, is the ability to create a flex/part-time work schedule that balances personal commitments while remaining dedicated to serving our clients.
The Women's Initiative provides female attorneys with mentors to assist them in their development as attorneys so they can better service their clients. One way this is accomplished is by providing female attorneys with the opportunity for direct client contact. Forging a constructive relationship between our attorneys and our clients allows us to better understand our clients’ needs and provide more creative solutions.
Additionally, the Women's Initiative encourages female attorneys to develop and promote their practices by joining and taking leadership positions in professional associations, as well as speaking at seminars and conferences. Further, the firm provides opportunities for female attorneys to participate in professional and social networking events in an effort to raise the profile of the attorneys and the firm.
Lastly, the Women's Initiative believes it is important to be involved in the community in which we practice and seeks out female owned or female-based charities to support both financially and with volunteer hours.
We are proud of the accomplishments of the Women's Initiative but realize there are many challenges ahead. Burns White is committed to meeting those challenges and to the success of its female attorneys.
